Helsinki University of Technology, TKK, started the Linkage Program in 1987 as a means to create "links" (thus Linkage Program) between TKK and foreign universities, industry and students. Due to the success of the Program it is repeated annually with the 2007/2008 Program being the 21th consecutive program. It is a one-year international university program held completely in English and planned for approximately 20 foreign and Finnish participants. The small group size guarantees a good working atmosphere, while the international nature expands your knowledge of different cultures and creates future contacts around the world. All of which provide an excellent base for successful international careers. The Program's focus is on pulp and paper technology. However, the importance of the environment, the ability to control processes, and an understanding of the economics behind production, as well as the end-use technologies are not forgotten, but are all brought into the Program with specific courses. Students completing the Program will have a basic understanding of the industry as a whole and the processes involved, as well as knowledge of modern technology applied in the pulp and paper industry.
